The LaFond Charitable Trust

Mission: To fund medical research for early detection of liver cancer and providing resources and information about liver cancer.

The LaFond Charitable Trust is a nonprofit organization founded in the memory of Denise LaFond who passed away at a young age from this aggressive cancer.

There are still many unknowns about Liver Cancer, The trust is dedicated to funding research in hope that that in the near future, the mortality rate will decrease instead of grow. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be about 42,220 people diagnosed with liver cancer in the U.S. in 2018 and about 30,200 deaths from the disease.

Unfortunately this can be an extremely fast growing cancer and currently it is very difficult to detect until its later stages. The survival rate for liver cancer is a maximum of five years; this number decreases depending on the severity of the cancer. Since there are many unknowns about the disease, The LaFond Trust seeks to provide information about liver cancer as well as resources for people in the Pacific Northwest who may be diagnosed with it.
